Dr. Charschan’s role as medical staff for June Jr. Olympic USATF track meet

This past Saturday I attended the USATF Jr. Olympic championships in Palisades Park, NJ. In my role as medical director since 1992, I have been responsible for helping the organization find doctors to help by either volunteering or by receiving a small stipend. It was a great day for track and field, since the weather was not too hot. Hot days create problems with runners who over heat.

In my role, I handled any emergencies and would coordinate care to a hospital if needed. I was essentially the trainer, the EMS crew and the first aid station. USATF events is my way of giving back and helping children become competitive adults safely. Often, I see inner city children and even those from the suburbs in more affluent areas who just have not had the right guidance for their problems. I try in any way I can to make a difference by offering sound advice and helping those with problems find the care they need.
