The value (or lack thereof) of various health care practices in the U.S.
I came across this interesting commentary on healthcare costs from a surgeon. As many of my patients know, I try to do what is best for them, in the most cost effective manner. Many physicians such as myself have been attacked by insurance carriers who lowered our fees yearly, cut back on needed medically necessary care for our patient while paying millions in absurd facility fees and making our health care system an expensive boondoggle. The icing on the cake is hearing about health care cutbacks, higher and more rediculous cost sharing while the quality of care is lessened. We would do well with true healthcare reform, which means changing the current status quo and paradigm which values quantity of life of all cost, without reguard to the quality of life..
