You have to love this; Oscar Pistorius a double amputee sets an example for others amputees.
I saw this guy race today with two prosthetic limbs and was floored by his tenacity and the fact he made it to this years Olympic games. Oscar Pistorius has two specially designed prosthetic lower legs. Originally, there were concerns these would give him an unfair advantage during the Olympics however, after watching one of the races he was in, which he placed second, it shows how far we have come with prosthetic design and how someone with a disability from amputation can again have an ability returned to them. I studies prosthetic design in Engineering school and I find this simplistic looking design quite remarkable.
Even when he is just walking around, he seems to have a normal stride and gait. I did notice he tended to flare out slightly on the left hand side, which may have to do with how the prosthesis is fitted. Could better alignment of the prosthesis improve his efficiency and in the end how fast he runs?
If you look carefully at his prosthesis, it has the Nike logo (they are such great marketers!). I am sure they bankrolled this project at least in part and they deserve all the attention they get.
