This new food labeling system based on one used in Great Britain since 2007 may help you avoid cancer and other illnesses. It's no secret that junk food is not good for us. The empty calories, salt, sugar and other ingredients that many of us may not even be able to pronounce has been known to cause illness in the general population for years. According to CNN, researchers have now developed a food labeling system to tie a diet low in nutritional quality with increased risks of a number of types of cancers. The Nutri-score logo is based on the British Food Standards Agency's Nutrient Profiling System which uses a 100 gram measure for calories (energy) sugar, saturated fatty acids, sodium, fiber and proteins. The system has been used in Britain since 2007. This new five tier system grades the food from A (highest nutritional quality) to E (lowest nutritional quality) and uses color coding so consumers can at a glance see which foods are healthy and which are not. Other countries in the Euro zone have been evaluating this new system of food nutrition labeling to see if they will adopt it in the near future.
