A recent study performed at the Veterans Administration evaluated chiropractic care which has a growing presence and acceptance among the medical staff in the V.A. Quick rundown of the study: Who: 110 active-duty military members with low back pain. What: 4 weeks of chiropractic care (spinal manipulation, advice, reassurance) vs. a waitlist group. The key numbers: Pulling strength increased by 11 lbs in the chiropractic group… but actually decreased by 16 lbs in the waitlist group. Endurance (holding a trunk position) went up by 3 seconds with chiropractic care… but down by 10 seconds without it. Balance (eyes closed) improved slightly with chiropractic care but declined without it. Oh—and pain intensity, disability, and fear-avoidance scores all got better too. While chiropractic care had to fight for 20 years to develop a presence in the V.A. patients and the medical providers who normally worked and managed their cases found chiropractors often reduced costs, reduced reliance on drugs such as Opioids and improved physical function in the patients they served. Currently, there are not enough chiropractors in the V.A. even though so many chiropractic physicians have applied, few positions are available for full time status in the V.A. To solve this, the V.A established an outpatient program where servicemen and women are able to be referred to local chiropractors to get the care they need quickly and efficiently. Our office participates and will welcome those who require care. Why think chiropractic first for problems in the musculoskeletal system? Chiropractic care is more than just spinal adjustments and relief of pain. Doctors of chiropractic improve function and improve the health span of patients. Health span is the part of your health that is when you are most healthy. Be healthier with holistic chiropractic care. Move, feel and function better. Need help today.
