Do you want to unlock your old Iphone 3gs for overseas or other usage, here is how to do it. Most of us have some older phones laying around the house that have value but are sitting in a drawer somewhere. There are two ways to dispose of them which includes donating them or putting them as is on an Internet site like ebay. Believe it or not, there are buyers in this country and abroad who want your phone and are willing to pay you for it. Trying it both ways; donating or selling, for most of us, selling the phone is by far the better deal for both you and someone who wants it. This is a good deal for both of you because they get as working phone in good condition they can use while your electronics pay you a dividend and do not end up in a dump somewhere. This is an earth friendly solution for an old phone. Your older iphone also has more life after being used. In the United States, buying a phone is subsidized by the major carriers which is why we pay more for cell services than other countries do. On the other hand, other countries buy their phone unlocked which allows them to use it on any GSM carrier they wish. This is not necessarily true for CDMA phones which is used primarily in the United States. If you want to sell your iphone to someone overseas, you should unlock it first. ATT will give you instructions on how to unlock the phone. Here are the instructions they gave me. Good luck. Your phone can help you make a few dollars to spend over the holidays while making another buyer who will want it since they do not have their phone subsidized. These instructions are directly from ATT We have reviewed your account and found that you have not yet completed a backup and restore for your unlocked iPhone. To complete the unlock, simply: 1. Open iTunes on your Mac or PC and verify that you have Internet connectivity. 2. Connect your iPhone using the dock connector to USB cable that came with your iPhone. 3. Backup and restore your iPhone using iTunes. For information on backup and restore, please visit http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414. 4. After restoring, your iPhone will be unlocked. Additional information on unlocking can be found at http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3198. I am not sure if this procedure works for other iphones, but this will unlock your 3gs as per att.
