Is it the shoes? The Nutrition? The Training? The course? The runner? Never mind, Sebastian Sawe, from Kenya, breaks the 2-hour marathon in London with a time of 1:59:30. The last time this happened was when Nike was promoting their Vaporfly shoe, the first one to feature a carbon plate, which was designed to improve your efficiency during a marathon. For runners who can maintain the pace, this can potentially improve their running time by up to 4%. During a full marathon, this can mean a runner can run faster with some help from the shoe. Many runners have been using these shoes, as major manufacturers other than Nike have joined in with their own designs. Which is best? Not sure, but the race is on to find the next best running shoe for marathoners that not only helps you reduce running times but also prevents injuries. Recently, Puma has been promoting their track shoes, which also feature a carbon plate design, which may have caused the training injuries experienced by U.S. track star Abby Steiner. She has a lawsuit against Puma and Mercedes F1, claiming the shoes’ defective design injured her and ended her career. While it is true that new designs will force your body to work differently, this is obviously bad press that likely has Puma executives trying to figure out what went wrong, or perhaps, this type of design is not for everyone. Puma also has a Marathon shoe that has done well during expos taking place at major marathons. Read more about Sebastian Saw and his record-breaking sub-2-hour marathon below Sabastian Sawe Wiki
