Tumeric is a spice very common in Indian food and other areas of southeast Asia. In my experience, it often works too well when it becomes a normal staple in the diet. Many of our patients who have diets high in Turmeric do not feel pain until their problems are more chronic because the spice does such a good job reducing inflammation.

We all feel something and inflammation can enhance discomfort and pain, especially when we age. A diet supplemented with Turmeric will reduce inflammation, the source of many of the diseases people suffer from including heart disease and problems in the gut. Adding Turmeric in your diet can naturally reduce the inflammation caused by years of poor food choices, and chronic conditions too. It is not a miracle drug however it can help us feel and function better as we age.

Curcumin, the active ingredient in Turmeric, is even more effective because in its more concentrated form which we sell in our office under the Integrative Therapeutics brand, has helped many patients reduce inflammation and it also can be an effective blood thinner. Be aware of this because if you are already on a blood thinner, consider a different anti inflammatory.

Our Deflame packs also have Turmeric as well as Ginger, Vitamin E and b complexes which can help reduce inflammation as a maintenance dose. It worked so well for me that years ago, I was re rated by my life insurance company for a lower rate because it improved how my bloods looked for my age.

Turmeric also improves many other markers linked to metabolic health including cholesterol and blood sugar. According to a 2024 systematic review of 103 studies published in Phytotherapy Research that supports curcumin’s anti-inflammatory effects. The analysis found that people taking curcumin experienced significant improvements in markers linked to inflammation and metabolic health, including blood sugar, cholesterol, and body weight.

The study has also concluded that patients who have taken Turmeric have often experienced significant relief of joint discomfort. Theracumin, the product we carry that has a pharmaceutical dose of curcumin is very effective for the patients who regularly use it and unlike pharmaceuticals, it is a food base substance.
